Airdrie is a city in Alberta within the Calgary Region, located approximately 13 km (9 mi) north of the Calgary city. The City of Airdrie is part of the Calgary census metropolitan area and a member community of the Calgary Regional Partnership (CRP). Population: 42,564 (2011 Census).
Airdrie has a prairie-steppe type climate, which means that it usually enjoys sunny weather, even in winter, although winters are cold and long, and most of its little rainfall comes in summer. It’s also often quite windy as there are few natural barriers to the wind.
Things to Do. Established as a railway town around the 1890s, the Airdrie of today is a booming community, home to many young families who work in Calgary but live in Airdrie because of lower living costs and small community atmosphere.
Airdrie’s cultural attractions include the Nose Creek Valley Museum, which showcases the life of early prairie residents, and the Bert Church Theatre, a contemporary performing arts venue that attracts musical and theatrical performers.
